MCM? Midcentury Modern. That term is thrown around so much these days, that it is often being used as a catch phrase for anything "vingtage". In reality, "Midcentury modern" itself is a difficult term to define. It broadly describes architecture, furniture, and graphic design from the middle of the 20th century (roughly 1933 to 1965, though some would argue the period is specifically limited to 1947 to 1957). The timeframe is a modifier for the larger modernist movement, which has roots in the Industrial Revolution at the end of the 19th century and also in the post-World War I period.
That being said, to keep up with the times - even we find ourselves using the term MCM outside of it's real realm. Does it really matter? Yes and no. Depends on the purpose of the talk, in our opinion. For searching purposes online, we use it much more liberally than we would in conversation with our peers who know a thing or two about MCM furniture. What are your thoughts?
